What is a sports massage?

A sports massage works deep into the muscles

using a variety of techniques in order to realign

and lengthen fibres in a problem area. Massages

are excellent for blood circulation which will

nourish the area with fresh oxygenated blood,

providing vital nutrients and minerals and flush away toxins.

Your sports and remedial therapist will use a combination of techniques specific to your injury. STR (soft tissue release), MET (muscle energy techniques) and NMT (neuromuscular techniques) along with joint mobilisation assist alongside your massage to speed up the recovery process.

A remedial therapist will not just focus on the problem area but will look at the overall picture to establish the cause so that the symptoms do not return. You will be left with postural advice along with stretches and strengthening exercises to assist with your recovery.
